Gloria Clarke, RN/Esth/CEO
Gloria was born and raised in New York during the ‘Baby Boom’. In her formative years she was equally drawn to arts and sciences as she expressed creative abilities as well as talented care-taking for family members. Although torn by two scholarships (art and science), her first higher education at Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing put her on the early medical path. She spent many years nursing in a range of specialties including medicine, surgery, gynecology, labor/delivery, and acute care until finally getting back to art over a decade later. At Mass. College of Art she learned Fine Arts Medical Illustration and also pursued Chinese brush painting. In a short time, during the Harmonic Convergence of energy in the 1980’s, she turned to holistic/herbal interests and began courses in reflexology, mind/body therapies, and guided visualization. A tough experience as a head nurse for a coma facility created a need for a break from nursing. She got her training as an esthetician (Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics in Mass.), becoming the science teacher at the same school after a short time in the field and had some part-time experience at salons and cosmetic companies such as Lancome. She taught for two years at the CEH school and founded the science program as well as sat on the State Board for skin care. Feeling the health knowledge limitations of her skin-care peers, she took a trip back into nursing. This time was different however as she stayed out of health care facilities by going into home care (Boston V.N.A.). While continuing her studies in holistics, she took a journey to the Caribbean to experience native herbal healing therapies, eventually bringing this knowledge to the creation of natural skin-care products. After working as a visiting nurse for several years in Boston, she returned to N.Y. to care for her ailing mother and began home care at a Long Island agency (V.N.S. of Suffolk). She nursed her mother through to hospice, fulfilled her promise to prevent nursing facility care, and supported her in her own home to her final rest. She tried to remain strong as she bid blessings to her hometown and traveled to be with her extended family across the country in California. She worked for two years in visiting nursing again (TriCity home care), but decided to take a leap of faith to open a naturopathic medical spa. She’s currently finishing her PHD in Naturopathy while performing R.N.-Esthetician therapies, as well as some nursing.
